The LASIK Procedure

The LASIK Procedure During the procedure an eye drop is used to numb your eye. Then Dr. Scott Beeve uses the microkeratome to peel the top layers of the cornea to create a flap. This exposes the middle portions of clear corneal tissue. Now your eye is positioned under the computerized excimer laser which has been programmed to smoothly remove microscopic amounts of the corneal tissue. This removal changes the curvature of the cornea, therefore correcting the refractive properties of your eye. Once this laser ablation is finished, the flap is returned to its original position. The flap seals naturally without the need for any stiches. You are awake thouhout the entire procedure which takes only a few minutes.

Is LASIK for you? Most all ranges of prescription powers are effectively treated with LASIK. Even for large prescriptions, LASIK may be the best way to obtain clear natural vision. Good candidates are those who desire to minimize or eliminate their dependency on glasses or contact lens. Individuals who play sports and swimmers may experience a new sense of freedom. Other good candidates are all those who simply wish to read the clock while in bed without fumbling for their glasses. However, LASIK may not be recommended for individuals with certain medical conditions, children, and women during pregnancy.
